About the Members:
Max Voltage (Violin, Mandolin, Ukelele, Bass, Vox) has been performing since a young age, when Max would rally neighbor kids and put together skits & performances for parents and friends. When Max saw Itzak Pearlman play violin on Sesame Street at age …3, Max was hooked, and began pestering the parents for violin lessons. At age 5 Max began studying classical violin with the Nuns at Marylhurst College, learning the Suzuki method. At age 8, Max joined the Metropolitan Youth Symphony, performing quarterly at the Arlene Shnitzer Concert Hall, and touring with MYS to Italy and the British Isles.
Max’s more recent performance career includes winning the San Francisco Drag King Competition in 2003, and running Pants-Off Productions (including producing, MCing & performing in Homomentum.) Musical collaborations include playing violin locally with Katie Sawicki and recording with her as part of The Cabin Project, and touring with Chris Pureka as part of her band for a West Coast tour in Fall 2010, and an upcoming Midwest tour in April & May 2011. Additionally, Max plays violin as part of Queertet PDX, a local chamber music group.
Riley Ciara La Roux (Accordion, Vox, Bass, Keys) could sing before she could speak. it has been told that she could carry a perfect tune by 9 months and would sing in garble because she still didnt know words. she went on to sing special music for church, to win church talent shows (“somewhere over the rainbow” at 6 was her first win. foreshadowing.), and to star in most of the musicals at her tiny private church school in tiny town idaho. she took piano lessons from ages 5 to 12. In high school, she was in jazz choir and concert choir and performed original songs solo with piano/vocals. Majoring in music and taking additional voice and piano lessons in early college, riley realized that she didnt want a degree in music, she wanted to perform music.
Throughout her 20’s she performed various venues in the northwest and especially eugene, playing piano and singing. For a brief spell, she played bass and sang in a girl punk band called ‘the janitors’ in gainesville, florida (with becky may and chrissy martinez of Oriflamme) which performed in the south and at ‘southern girls’ in 2003. she picked up the accordian a couple of years ago, and is excited to be learning on an instrument more portable then a piano. she loves to sing and do harmonies and play along and perform burlesque and sing karaoke and dance around.
